he Black & Decker DCM18S is a neat personal drip coffeemaker that brews a cup of coffee in just a couple of minutes. The machine will definitely not win any awards for its appearance; the black plastic and simple design is just boring and looks cheap. But I didn’t buy this coffeemaker for it looks, but because it was easy to use and inexpensive. The machine itself is so small it barely takes up any space on my kitchen counter.

The travel mug that comes with the machine is made of stainless steel and looks quite nice at first glance. The bottom half is tapered which makes it conveniently fit most vehicles cup holders. But I was not too impressed by the travel mug to be honest. The interior was made of plastic and it didn’t keep the coffee hot for very long. I quickly bought another travel mug instead which fit the machine and had a stainless steel interior. With my new mug I can enjoy my coffee in the car on my way to work.

Travel mug comes with Black & Decker DCM18S Brew N GoMini drip coffeemaker

The Black & Decker DCM18S is a miniature drip coffeemaker and works just like a regular drip machine. The water reservoir is located behind the brew basket and is accessed by flipping up the top. Remember not to add more water than can fit in your cup or mug since the coffeemaker will continue to brew until the reservoir is empty. A good rule of thumb is to fill your cup all the way up to the brim with water. If you do this you will get a full cup of coffee when the machine is finished brewing.

The machine comes with a permanent filter, but as all permanent filters it let through too much sediment for my liking. I therefore use Mellita paper filters (No. 1). These filters fit perfectly and ensure the last sip of my coffee is not full of sediment.

If you use too fine grinds you will get coffee grinds on the inside of the machine. I guess the ground coffee splash up when the hot water drips down into the basket. It needs to be wiped clean once in a while or the grinds will fall off the brew basket lid into the water reservoir. Cleaning is both easy and fast, but it is a hassle.

Unfortunately the coffeemaker is not programmable, but there is a work around. If you start the coffeemaker and unplug it, it will start off where it was in the cycle when you plug it into the socket again. If you set a timer to activate in the morning and use this trick you can have a mug of freshly brewed coffee waiting for you in the morning.

I bought my Black & Decker Brew N Go drip coffeemaker so I could have a cup freshly brewed coffee on the road to work. I have now used this machine for about 7 months and it still works great. Since I am the only one drinking coffee in my family this single serve drip coffeemaker fits my needs. The only thing I really miss with this machine is a programmable function so I don’t need to fiddle with the timer in the socket. If you are looking for a simple and inexpensive drip coffeemaker that makes a cup at the time you should look no further.
